Sandi Hilal è artista, architetta e ricercatrice. Hilal dal 2008 al 2014 è stata a capo del programma di miglioramento delle infrastrutture e dei campi in Cisgiordania sostenuto dall’UNRWA. Con Alessandro Petti ha fondato e dirige dal 2007 DAAR Decolonizing Architecture and Art Residency, in Palestina, insieme studio di architettura e residenza artistica in grado di riunire architetti, artisti, attivisti, urbanisti, cineasti e curatori in una ricerca sul rapporto tra architettura e politica. Nel 2012 hanno fondato Campus in Camps nel campo profughi di Dheisheh a Betlemme. Entrambi sono autori del libro Architecture after Revolution (Sternberg, 2014). Nella loro ricerca, le mostre sono al tempo stesso luogo di esposizione, produzione materiale, ricerca e contestazione politica. I due hanno partecipato a diverse rassegne internazionali, tra cui dal 2003 varie edizioni della Biennale di Venezia, la Biennale di Istanbul nel 2009, Home Works Beirut nel 2010, la Biennale di San Paolo del Brasile nel 2014, la Asian Art Biennial nel 2015 e la Marrakesh Biennial nel 2016. Le loro ricerche sono state poi testate concretamente con interventi architettonici nei campi profughi. Per il suo impegno come architetta e attivista Sandi Hilal ha ricevuto svariati premi e riconoscimenti internazionali.

Sandi Hilal is an artist, architect and researcher. From 2008 to 2014, Hilal was the head of the Infrastructure and Camp Improvement Program in the West Bank at UNRWA. With Alessandro Petti she founded and has directed DAAR Decolonizing Architecture and Art Residency in Palestine since 2007 an architectural studio and an art residency aimed at gathering architects, artists, activists, urbanists, film-makers and curators to work collectively on the subjects of politics and architecture. In 2012, they founded Campus in Camps in the Dheisheh refugee camp in Bethlehem. Both are authors of the book Architecture after Revolution (Sternberg, 2014). In their research, contemporary art exhibitions are at the same time a place of exhibition, material production, research and political protest. They participated in several international exhibitions, including various editions of the Venice Biennale since 2003, the Istanbul Biennale in 2009, Home Works Beirut in 2010, the Sao Paulo Biennale in 2014, the Asian Art Biennial in 2015 and the Marrakesh Biennial in 2016.Their research was then tested concretely with architectural interventions in refugee camps. For her commitment as an architect and activist Sandi Hilal has received several international awards.
