Francesco Careri è architetto e cofondatore del laboratorio di Arte Urbana Stalker / Osservatorio Nomade, con cui dal 1995 sperimenta metodologie di intervento creativo nella città multiculturale e dell’abitare informale, dapprima attraverso la pratica dell’attraversamento, con azioni di arte pubblica, studi e progetti sulle microtrasformazioni operate dagli abitanti e in seguito nella città dei Rom, tra baraccopoli, campi attrezzati e auto recupero di spazi occupati. È professore Associato nel Dipartimento di Architettura dell’Università di Roma Tre, dove ha creato il Corso “peripatetico” di Arti Civiche. È Direttore del Master Arti Architettura Città, co-Direttore dei Master Environmental Humanities e del Master PACS Arti Performative e Spazi Comunitari. Dal 2016 è titolare del Laboratorio di Progettazione Architettonica e Urbana con cui sperimenta la strategia di abitare transitorio CIRCO – Casa Irrinunciabile per la Ricreazione Civica e l’Ospitalità. Ha insegnato anche in varie facoltà in Francia dove ha pubblicato saggi e svolto attività professionale. Tra le sue principali pubblicazioni, Constant. New Babylon, una città nomade (Testo & Immagine, 2001), e Walkscapes, Camminare come pratica estetica (Einaudi, 2006), tradotto in vari paesi europei.

Francesco Careri is an architect and co-founder of the urban art laboratory Stalker / Osservatorio Nomade, with which since 1995 he has been experimenting with methods of creative intervention in the multicultural city and informal living, first through the practice of crossing, with public art actions, studies and projects on micro-transformations carried out by the inhabitants and then in the city of Roma, between shantytowns, equipped camps and self-recovery of occupied spaces. He is Associate Professor in the Department of Architecture at Roma Tre University, where he created the “peripatetic” course of Civic Arts. He is Director of the Master Arts Architecture City, co-Director of the Master Environmental Humanities and the Master PACS Performing Arts and Community Spaces. Since 2016 he is the head of the Laboratory of Architectural and Urban Design that experiments with the strategy of transitional living CIRCO – Casa Irrinunciabile per la Ricreazione Civica e l’Ospitalità. He has also taught in various faculties in France where he has published essays and carried out professional activities. Among his main publications, Constant. New Babylon, a nomadic city (Text & Image, 2001), and Walkscapes, Walking as an aesthetic practice (Editorial Gustavo Gili, 2002), translated in various European countries.
