Claire Pentecost è un’artista e scrittrice statunitense che sperimenta e celebra le condizioni che definiscono la vita attraverso la poesia visiva, la scultura e l’installazione. Spesso i suoi progetti indagano la controversa linea tra natura e artificio, e si concentrano da anni sul cibo, l’agricoltura, la bioingegneria e l’evoluzione e sui mutamenti antropogenici del nostro pianeta. Dal 2006 collabora con Brian Holmes, 16Beaver Group e altri organizzatori di Continental Drift, un ciclo di seminari che esplorano le scale interconnesse della nostra esistenza nella logica della globalizzazione. È inoltre membro fondatore di Deep Time Chicago, progetto artistico incentrato sui cambiamenti culturali nell’era dell’Antropocene. Le opere di Claire Pentecost sono state esposte in varie rassegne internazionali, quali dOCUMENTA(13) a Kassel nel 2012, la 13a Biennale di Istanbul nel 2013 e la 3a Land Art Biennial Mongolia nel 2014, e in musei e istituzioni quali la Whitechapel Gallery di Londra, Nottingham Contemporary, il DePaul Art Museum di Chicago, il Sursock Museum a Beirut, il Times Museum a Guangzhou, tra gli altri. Tra le istituzioni che l’hanno invitata in qualità di relatrice figurano il MIT, CalArts, la Rhode Island School of Design, la Northwestern University, la Rice University, l’Università della Virginia, il Creative Time Summit. È rappresentata dalla galleria Higher Pictures di New York ed è docente nel presso il Dipartimento di Fotografia della School of the Art Institute di Chicago.

Claire Pentecost is an artist and writer whose poetic and inductive drawings, sculpture and installations test and celebrate the conditions that bound and define life itself. Her projects often address the contested line between the natural and the artificial, focusing for many years on food, agriculture, bio-engineering, and anthropogenic changes on our planet. Since 2006 she has worked with Brian Holmes, 16Beaver and many others organizing Continental Drift, a series of seminars to articulate the interlocking scales of our existence in the logic of globalization. She is also a founding member of Deep Time Chicago, dedicated to cultural change in the Anthropocene. Claire Pentecost’s works have been shown in various international exhibitions, such as Kassel’s dOCUMENTA(13) in 2012, the 13th Istanbul Biennale in 2013 and the 3rd Land Art Biennial Mongolia in 2014, and in museums and institutions such as the Whitechapel Gallery in London, Nottingham Contemporary, the DePaul Art Museum in Chicago, the Sursock Museum in Beirut, the Times Museum in Guangzhou, among others. Institutions inviting her to lecture include MIT, CalArts, Rhode Island School of Design, Northwestern University, Rice University, The University of Virginia, Creative Time Summit. She is represented by Higher Pictures, New York, and is Professor in the Department of Photography, at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
