Come possiamo abitare meglio la Terra? Secondo l’artista statunitense Claire Pentecost, “il compost è la risposta chiave a questa domanda, perché riguarda la reciprocità”. Siamo ormai giunti alla fine dell’agricoltura estrattiva ed è tempo di restituire alla terra e di nutrirla con la decomposizione ossigenata dei materiali organici, altrimenti considerati rifiuti.
LIVING MATTERS è il progetto ideato da Pentecost per approfondire il concetto di compost con un gruppo di giovani e adolescenti: insieme un laboratorio, una palestra, un terreno di coltura i cui ingredienti sono la terra, la danza, la filosofia, il corpo umano, la biologia, la scrittura, il disegno, la conversazione, la musica e l’amicizia. Le sue attività sono state accompagnate da momenti di riflessione e dibattito con esperti di ambito scientifico e filosofico aperti alla presenza del pubblico: Vincenzo Guarnieri, chimico specializzato in biochimica e biotecnologia cellulare, Leonardo Caffo, filosofo, curatore e saggista, Alice Benessia, artista e fisica specializzata in fondamenti filosofici della fisica.
Esito del progetto è una performance collettiva, coadiuvata dal contributo della coreografa e danzatrice greca Chrysanti Badeka, in collaborazione con COORPI, svoltasi al Castello di Rivoli giovedì 18 luglio, seguita dalla conversazione tra Claire Pentecost e Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev nel Teatro del Museo.
Nella settimana che ha preceduto il laboratorio, mercoledì 10 luglio, COMP(H)OST è stato ospite del PAV Parco Arte Vivente con un incontro aperto al pubblico in preparazione di LIVING MATTERS, con la partecipazione di Piero Gilardi, Claire Pentecost, Alice Benessia e Vincenzo Guarnieri, Orietta Brombin e Giulia Mengozzi del PAV e di artisti e curatori impegnati in ricerche legate ai temi del progetto, quali tra gli altri Emanuela Ascari, Andrea Caretto e Raffaella Spagna, Rebecca De Marchi, Fannidada, Hilario Isola, Andrea Lerda, Marzia Migliora, Matteo Mottin e Ramona Ponzini, Ambra Pittoni e Paul-Flavien Enriquez-Sarano.

How can we live better on Earth? According to American artist Claire Pentecost, “compost is the main answer to this question, because it concerns reciprocity”. We have reached the end of extractive agriculture and it is time to give back to the earth and feed it with the oxygenated decomposition of organic materials, otherwise considered waste.
LIVING MATTERS is the project conceived by Pentecost to deepen the concept of compost together with a group of young people and adolescents. It is a laboratory, a gym, a learning and seeding ground whose ingredients are earth, dance, philosophy, the human body, biology, writing, drawing, conversation, music, and friendship. Its activities were accompanied by moments of reflection and debate open to the public with science and philosophy experts: Vincenzo Guarnieri, a chemist specialized in biochemistry and cellular biotechnology, Leonardo Caffo, philosopher, curator and essayist, Alice Benessia, artist and physicist specialized in the philosophical foundations of physics.
The result of the project is a collective performance, assisted by the contribution of the Greek choreographer and dancer Chrysanti Badeka, in collaboration with COORPI, held at the Castello di Rivoli on Thursday 18 July, followed by a conversation between Claire Pentecost and Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev in the Museum Theater.
In the week preceding the workshop, on Wednesday 10 July, COMP(H)OST was a guest of the PAV Parco Arte Vivente, with an open discussion in preparation for LIVING MATTERS, with the participation of Piero Gilardi and Claire Pentecost, Alice Benessia and Vincenzo Guarnieri, Orietta Brombin and Giulia Mengozzi from PAV, and of artists engaged in research related to the themes of the project, such as Emanuela Ascari, Andrea Caretto and Raffaella Spagna, Rebecca De Marchi, Fannidada, Hilario Isola, Andrea Lerda, Marzia Migliora, Matteo Mottin and Ramona Ponzini, Ambra Pittoni and Paul-Flavien Enriquez-Sarano, Laura Pugno.
